Tell me I am not the only one....

.
Okay, talk about feeling like an idiot! Today I had a fairly normal work day... meetings, budgets, etc. At three o'clock, I met a friend for a time of encouragement and prayer. At the close of our prayer time, I opened my eyes.... with my head still bowed... and would you believe that I had on two different shoes? GEESH! I guess that tells you how preoccupied I am with a zillion other things other than making sure that I look decent.... or at least have on a matching pair of shoes. Now granted, they were both black heels, and I did in fact have one left shoe and one right shoe.... they just didn't match!

Please tell me I am not the only one who has ever done this!

I can honestly say I have never walked out of the house with two different shoes on.

However, I am confused about having two different pairs of black heels. I have black boots, black loafers, and black heels, but I can't imagine having multiple pairs of the same type of shoe. Seems extravagant, but that is just my opinion.

Okay..... are you serious? You think having 2 pairs of black heels is extravagant? I guess you'd think I was really extravagant if you knew how many pairs of silver earings I had, or how many black skirts I have, or how many pairs of brown pants I own. What makes having 2 pairs of heels extravagant?

agreed...each shoe has a different style and goes with a different pair of pants which goes with a certian shirt that has the perfect earings and necklace to match it...its simple girl basics...get with the program

I just think that there are better uses of money than buying large amounts of shoes and clothes and jewelry. How many pairs of black shoes, black skirts, or brown pants does one need? I am talking need here, not want!

Having two pairs of heels is not extravagant. Having two pairs of black heels, is "in my opinion." If you had said black and navy blue, I wouldn't have even blinked.

When I read about people with fifty pairs of shoes, not to mention the amount of clothing needed to maintain that many pairs of shoes, I think about all the people who don't have food or heat, let alone multiple pairs of shoes.

I just think it would be hard to justify, in my own mind, having that much material things, when our fellow human beings are hungry and cold!

I agree that there are hungry and cold people in the world. Your position however, assumes that we aren't helping to take care of those in need just because we have 2 pairs of black heels! I hardly think that is fair.

Do you have 2 cars in your family? Do you spend money on dryer sheets? Do you spend money on snack foods, fountain drinks, or iTunes? Do you own an iPod, a CD player, or any kind of recording device? Do you spend money on gum, going to the movies, or candles to make your home smell nicer? These are all unnecessary things.

Just because we have a few extra things in our closets, offices, cars, and homes, it doesn't mean that we are extravagant, or that we are not helping those in need.

Well, I think that a search of this blog will reveal that there IS a certain fascination with shoes, as well as shopping, buying, bargains, and material goods (do searches with those keywords).

I don't really think that anyone has to justify their lifestyle or what they spend their money on, but I think it is all about consistency:

For the Christian, what sort of lifestyle are they supposed be living in relation to material goods? The church today is proliferated with those who live an upper middle class lifestyle, and then justify it to themselves and their peers because they help the needy, or give a decent amount on Sunday morning, or work their weekends with benefits for CFS. These are all good and admirable things, but hardly comparable to the nature of the ministry of Christ or the work of the church in the First Century, where the believers had ALL (put that in huge caps, underline it in red letters) things in common.

Christ spoke truly when he said that the love of money is the root of all evil. The fascination that many have with shopping, ties, shoes, and living in Ladue is the antithesis of the life and work of Christ, which we, as Christians, are to emulate.

How many pair of shoes did Jesus have, anyway?

I am not going to feel guilty about having some "things" in my life. We ALL have "things" that we don't need... I must question why you didnt answer the questions about the things that you spend money on?

are you a believer and follower of Jesus Christ and the Word of God?

I think that it is terribly unfair to judge my heart based on where I live... what I blog about from time to time... or how many shoes own.

You don't know me if you think I am caught up in material things. And that's okay- but please be kind enough to not judge me- especially when you are clearly ignorant of the the facts.

Also, take a look back at my blog if you want.... you may notice a few blogs about shoes, ties, etc...
But you will also notice blogs about my BEAUTIFUL girls, the church that I attend, world happenings, TV shows, Random survey questions, tributes to people I love, prayers, solicitations for non-profit organizations, good times with friends and family...etc.

Conni,
The first anonymous is just looking for a reason to complain about something and he or she just happened to use your blog to do it. It wouldn't have mattered what you said on your blog or what your responses were. Some people just want to stir things up.
In the future you may not to want to even respond to those kinds of comments. People like that know how to push your buttons-and that's exactly what I think has happened here. You responded in exactly the way he or she knew you would. Dont take offense at an "anonymous" comment, and don't respond defensively. That's what they want.

Well,

I certainly can understand where Anonymous #2 is coming from. . .a rigid interpretation of the bible and of Christianity DOES lead one to beleive that the materialism that is reflected in the lifestyle of nearly all middle to upper middle class americans is not consistent with those teachings.

However, I can hardly criticize--I have a $600 vaccumm cleaner, a houseful of guitars, and we have three computers in our house. I still think that our lifestyle is modest and geared towards home and family though, and we are able to stay focused on what is important.

As for Conni? Does she have too many shoes? probably. Does that make her a bad person? Of course not. Is that indicitive of the sort of materialism that the Bible disdains? Depends on who you ask. . there are as many interpretations of the bible as there are people who read it.

Now, back to the original question: Have I ever mismatched shoes? No.

Should Conni be embarrassed that she mismatched her shoes the other day? No.

Should she be embarrased that this is not the first time she has done this? I will let the reader judge.

Conni,
First off, I don't know you, so my opinion may or may not mean anything to you. But I am a Christian, and just want to remind anonymous #1 that how he judges others is how he will be judged by God in the end. "Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged."
This person is obviously insecure and in need of attention. There is nothing wrong with having things in your life to make you happy (within reason). In the world we live in, it would be nearly impossible to live the way Jesus' followers did in Biblicial times. But that doesn't make us any less God's children, that are covered and saved by Jesus' blood!
Even if this person lives in a commune and has absolutely no luxuries in their life, (obviously she has a computer!) she still has no right to do God's job of judging.
Take Heart and Pray for her to be healed - that's all you can do!

P.S. If it makes you feel any better I have over 60 pairs of shoes! :) Some I've had for over 10 years, but I simply have taken excellent care of them- and classic black - NEVER goes out of style~
